Ferrari on 13 October: the 2002 Suzuka one-two and podium record
On 13 October 2002, Michael Schumacher won the Japanese Grand Prix ahead of Rubens Barrichello, giving Ferrari a one-two at the final race of the season. The result also completed Michael Schumacher’s extraordinary record of finishing every Grand Prix that year on the podium.
Unlike several other Ferrari anniversaries at Suzuka, this date marks the completion of a dominant campaign rather than the moment a championship was decided.

2002: Ferrari ends the season first and second
Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello finished first and second at Suzuka, concluding a season in which Ferrari had already secured both championships.
The Japanese victory was Michael Schumacher’s eleventh win of the year. His Drivers’ Championship had been settled at the French Grand Prix in July, well before the season finale.
A podium in every Grand Prix
By reaching the podium at Suzuka, Michael Schumacher completed the 2002 season with 17 podium finishes from 17 races. The achievement reflected both his consistency and the reliability of Ferrari’s campaign.
The Japanese Grand Prix therefore provides the endpoint of that record. It should be distinguished from the earlier race at which he secured his fifth world title.
Other Japanese Grands Prix on 13 October
Michael Schumacher also finished second for Ferrari at the 1996 Japanese Grand Prix on this date. In 2013, Fernando Alonso finished fourth and Felipe Massa tenth.
