Mick Schumacher will test for Ferrari after the Bahrain Grand Prix the team has confirmed. Schumacher will be behind the wheel of the SF90 on the Tuesday after the race.
Mick, the son of Ferrari legend and seven-time world champion Michael, will get the chance to drive a modern Formula 1 car for the first time in the post-Bahrain test. He was also confirmed to be testing for Alfa Romeo on day two of the test.
“I am obviously more than excited and would like to thank Ferrari for giving me this opportunity,” Schumacher said of the announcement – “I am really looking forward to what I’m sure will be a great experience. But for the moment, I am consciously putting all thoughts of the test to one side, because I am also very much looking forward to competing in my first F2 race and would like to focus a hundred percent on the weekend to come.”
Having won the European Formula 3 title last season, the German will make the step up to F2 this season with PREMA Racing. The opening round of the F2 season will also be taking place this weekend with his F1 testing duties on the horizon the following week.
Scuderia Ferrari also confirmed that German driver Sebastian Vettel would be behind the wheel of the SF90 on Wednesday.
