“We will make noise,” was the phrase Frédéric Vasseur used in the summer of 2023 to comment on the recruitment campaign launched to strengthen Ferrari’s racing department after a disappointing start to the season that saw the team drop to fourth place among constructors. Almost a year has passed since then, and the promises made by the Draveil manager have been kept, as at the beginning of the season Fréd Vasseur announced the signing of Lewis Hamilton and the contract renewal of Charles Leclerc, completing a dream team formation. He then focused on the technical department, reshaping it according to his vision for the Scuderia.
After bringing in junior figures from Red Bull and elsewhere at the end of 2023, the technical staff led by Frédéric Vasseur (who assumed the role on an interim basis following the resignation of Enrico Cardile, who decided to move to Aston Martin and had likely reached the end of his tenure at Ferrari) has been strengthened. As announced in recent months, two “top guys” from Mercedes, in Fred Vasseur’s words, have joined: Loic Serra and Jerome D’Ambrosio. Serra, the former performance director at Mercedes, will take on the role of head of performance engineering for the chassis at Ferrari and will report to the technical director, who will be appointed soon. D’Ambrosio will assist the team principal, becoming his deputy.
These additions do not seem to be the end, as after the departure of Enrico Cardile (and possibly others around the summer), Ferrari is bringing in new professionals specifically chosen to reinforce the technical staff in the areas of greatest need. Among these is Cedric Sambardier, who, as learned last weekend, is the new leader of the team’s composites department. The Frenchman, who has been in Italy since the beginning of the month, comes with seven years of experience at Red Bull, after stints at Renault, Manor, and Sauber.
