Scuderia Ferrari has impressed ever since the run with the F1-75 car in the Barcelona test and has confirmed the strong form in the first two races of the 2022 Formula 1 season, with a one-two finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix and another double podium finish in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, despite the fact that Ferrari missed the win at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit for just a few laps.
While the Maranello team can be more than happy with the start of the 2022 Formula 1 championship, it is worth pointing out that the F1-75 car has remained largely unchanged since it rolled out at the start of the first pre-season testing session at the Circuit de Catalunya, which cannot be said about Red Bull’s RB18 challenger. The Milton Keynes-based outfit already introduced a large update package for the final day of pre-season testing in Bahrain, which seemed to elevate their pace significantly and brought them very close to the Italian side.
However, Scuderia Ferrari are in no panic to respond with an upgrade package of their own just yet, as Team Principal Mattia Binotto confirmed that their calm approach is also strongly related to the limitations imposed by the budget cap. This means that Ferrari wants to delay spending as far into the 2022 Formula 1 season as possible and will focus on extracting more performance from the current F1-75 by better understanding the car and identifying aerodynamic configurations that can highlight the qualities of the 2022 single-seater.
For this year, the second since financial restrictions on teams were introduced, the budget cap limit is set at $140 million: “It’s not only a matter of when we’ll be ready, but there’s the matter of the budget cap and trying to make sure that we’re not spending what we’ve got in the first races. So we are not expecting developments or significant developments for the next race in Melbourne but, as soon as we can bring something, we will do it.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto explained.
