The Spanish Grand Prix has typically seen teams bring big upgrade packages, and it is no different this year despite the all-new cars. Most intriguingly, championship leaders Scuderia Ferrari have brought their first upgrade package as they attempt to hit back against Red Bull’s recent pace, while much of the attention will also focus on Mercedes with updates for their underperforming W13 car.
The Maranello team’s main upgrade is a new rear wing and a new floor specification, while Mercedes have also introduced a new floor and ‘bib’ winglet underneath the W13 car, with the world champions facing what is quite possibly a make or break weekend.
As reported by Italian Formula 1 journalist and analyst Giuliano Duchessa, Scuderia Ferrari initially intended to also bring uppdated sidepods (slimmer but with the same design). However, the Maranello team has made a last minute decision to bring just the revised floor and focus mainly on extracting as much performance as possible from the F1-75 car by limiting the effects of porpoising with the new floor speciffication which should also help increase efficiency at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Ferrari will therefore not bring new sidepods to this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya, as the sidepods upgrade will be introduced in a future package, most likely in the British Grand Prix.
