Ferrari would be interested in Oscar Piastri: the rumor from the Monza paddock
Lewis Hamilton arrived at Ferrari surrounded by huge expectations, with fans hoping he would finally bring the Formula 1 World Championship title back to Maranello. Instead, the last few months have highlighted several difficulties, and the British driver has been navigating between highs and lows without making significant progress. As often happens, stories quickly emerged in the media about possible replacements, changes, and new long-term plans for Ferrari’s future. It is no secret that the leading candidate for that seat, once Lewis Hamilton’s contract expires, is Oliver Bearman. However, according to journalist Fabio Marchi of Mundo Deportivo, a new rumor from the Monza paddock suggests that the Scuderia could also be looking at Oscar Piastri.
The Australian driver, who is currently the talk of the Formula 1 world as he leads the Championship, is under contract with McLaren until 2028. Hamilton, on the other hand, is believed to have signed with Ferrari until 2027, leaving a potential one-year gap. But everyone knows that contracts in Formula 1 can be broken quickly, especially when several million euros are involved. There is no doubt that Oscar Piastri is a top-tier talent, fresh and young, but Ferrari’s history shows how even a seven-time world champion can struggle in Maranello. Media pressure, internal politics, and cars that are not always competitive have already created problems for Lewis Hamilton.
Another key factor would be studying the potential relationship with Charles Leclerc—assuming the Monegasque star remains at Maranello for that long. Leclerc is already pushing Lewis Hamilton hard despite the Briton’s much greater experience. But how would he react to having a driver of his own generation alongside him, with the same career achievements and equally fierce determination? Considering the current Formula 1 grid, a move for Oscar Piastri still seems like a distant idea. Yet, with the new regulations on the horizon, a shake-up could change the situation dramatically.
