Ferrari is seeking clarity on the future as Formula 1 approaches the major technical revolution of 2026. While at the FIA table the team is engaged in political battles over Mercedes’ new internal combustion engine trick, Ferrari is also reorganizing internally to be fully prepared for the new F1 era.
The tensions that marked Lewis Hamilton’s first challenging year in red did not lead to a breakup, but to a carefully considered restructuring.
Clarifying dinner with a view to Ferrari F1 2026: Hamilton and Adami move forward together
The signal came from a low-profile meeting: an end-of-year dinner between the British driver and his race engineer Riccardo Adami, described as positive and clarifying.
According to the specialized outlet Autoracer.it, there are now no reasons to believe that the duo will not continue together in 2026, despite the fact that just a few days earlier, team principal Frederic Vasseur had revealed during the end-of-year toast with the media in Maranello that discussions were ongoing.
Those discussions evidently led to a decision in favor of continuity, with the goal of being fully prepared for a season that will transform Formula 1 and its power units. Within this context comes a technical update that will affect Lewis Hamilton’s daily work, as well as that of Charles Leclerc and, likely, the entire paddock.
Ferrari’s pit wall update: a dedicated ERS engineer for F1 2026
The Scuderia will introduce an ERS engineer at the pit wall, responsible for assisting the drivers exclusively with the electric strategy of the new power unit. This is an additional, not replacement, role: existing communication channels will remain unchanged but will be expanded to handle an unprecedented technical complexity.
The context explains the direction. Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 season was the most difficult of his career: no podiums, a significant gap in the standings behind Leclerc, and a slower-than-expected human and technical adaptation. The relationship with Adami, formerly engineer to Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz, was often under scrutiny due to tense team radios and operational misunderstandings. But in Maranello, they decided not to overhaul everything on the eve of a crucial year.
Team principal Frederic Vasseur hinted that nothing is untouchable, but the direction is one of fusion, not separation. The 2026 Ferrari will undergo radical changes in car and engine, while people and structures will largely remain the same. The addition of the ERS engineer should be seen as a targeted adjustment to put Lewis Hamilton and the team in the best position to perform at their maximum potential.
After a year of friction, Maranello’s response is not a total revolution, but a precise adjustment. It is a path that also passed through a dinner table, far from the cameras, where order was restored exactly where it was needed most.
