The latest news on the Ferrari driver renewals, as reported by the Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, sees Charles Leclerc getting closer to a staggering contract extension until 2029, while Carlos Sainz’s position is uncertain, and Ferrari is considering the option of Lando Norris.
Charles Leclerc secured, Carlos Sainz in doubt
The renewal of Charles Leclerc with Ferrari until 2029 seems to be a mere formality. According to rumors, the two parties should formalize the agreement that will bind the Monegasque driver to the Prancing Horse for another 5 years. The salary is expected to be around €50 million per year.
Carlos Sainz’s seat, on the other hand, is not as secure. The Spanish driver would prefer a multi-year extension, lasting at least two seasons, while Ferrari seems willing to offer an extension of only one year.
According to reports, the Scuderia in Maranello is considering Lando Norris as a very valid option for the future, but his contract with McLaren expires precisely in 2025.
For Carlos Sainz, in the case of an annual renewal, the possibility could arise for a return to McLaren, in a sort of exchange with Norris; or even joining Max Verstappen at Red Bull, given Sergio Pérez’s uncertain position.
