The words of Charles’s brother
The 2025 Monaco GP will be the first to require two mandatory pit stops, a regulatory novelty decided by the F1 Commission and ratified by the World Council to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2024 when, after the red flag caused by the first-lap incident between Perez and Magnussen, drivers were allowed to change tires during the neutralization, thus removing the only remaining uncertainty of the race — the pit stop.
Charles Leclerc’s brother, Arthur, Ferrari’s reserve and development driver, commented on this change: “I think having two mandatory stops is positive because it will bring a bit more action and unpredictability to the race, and it will also allow drivers to push more on the tires. In recent years, everything revolved too much around tire management. This year I believe this rule will add some strategy to the overall picture. That said, Monaco is always Monaco, so I think qualifying well will still be crucial to have a good race. I’m really curious to see what will happen.”
Obviously, Arthur will be rooting for his brother Charles, who won last year after what seemed like a real curse that started back in F2 in 2017: “Being Monegasque and watching the Monaco Grand Prix is something incredible. I’ve been following this race for many years, practically since I was born, and it’s truly something special for all our friends and family. Of course, seeing Charles drive always adds something extra. Last year he managed to realize the dream of winning the race, so in a way it feels like he closed the circle. For all Monegasques, the Grand Prix day is always a magical day.”
