Ferrari at a crossroads: Hamilton or Leclerc? The Monegasque explains the situation at Maranello.
During media day in Austria, Charles Leclerc responded to those concerned about a technical upheaval at Ferrari aimed at favouring Lewis Hamilton. The Briton’s season is not going as well as hoped, and so the question that has arisen in recent weeks is: with a car development tailored to him, could number 44 perform better?
Charles Leclerc acknowledged that the car Ferrari is designing for 2025 does not suit Lewis Hamilton’s style, and he also issued a warning. “Lewis is trying to push development in another direction, probably more for next year than for this season.”
Reading these statements, it’s natural to wonder: does Hamilton’s intention to take a specific stance within Ferrari pose a threat to Leclerc? The Monegasque clarified the matter, saying he is not worried and reassuring fans.
Charles Leclerc elaborated on the reason for his calmness. “We have all the tools to adapt the car to my driving style or to Lewis’s, so I don’t think that’s the issue. I just want the fastest possible car next year. I think that’s exactly what Lewis wants too.” – the 27-year-old pointed out.
“Wherever we are next year, I’ll set up the car the way I like and Lewis will do the same. I think we’re in an era of Formula 1 where engineers and technology just need the fastest car possible—we put the fastest car on track, and then we have all the freedom we need. It’s not like 10 or 15 years ago when you were a bit stuck in terms of balance and didn’t have the tools to make the car go faster.” – the Monegasque driver concluded ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
