Italian blogger Leo Turrini, who is famously very close to proceedings at Scuderia Ferrari, reflects on the announcement that Benedetto Vigna will become the new CEO of Ferrari and successor of Camilleri, in a recent post published on his quotidiano.net blog:
“I told you that Ferrari had chosen the new CEO. Now there is also the official confirmation. The Italian Benedetto Vigna, manager of the biggest division of chip maker STMicrolectronics’, one of the most important Italian companies on the innovation front, takes the place that belonged to Camilleri.
From a business point of view, the operation makes a lot of sense, if you think about the technological revolution in the automotive sector.
For us who are more interested in F1, there is room for a wish.
Vigna was a child in the days of the Ferrari of Lauda.
He was a boy in Gilles’ time.
He was already in his career when Schumi inaugurated the era of the Dream Team.
If he remembers these things and if they emotionally meant something to him, he will demonstrate it by intervening in support of the racing department.
Because, attention ! In Ferrari the CEO is the head of the company and not by chance Montezemolo (except for a very short period) and Marchionne also occupied that position.
Montezemolo and Marchionne were certainly no strangers to Formula One things.
We’ll see.
For now, good luck to Vigna (who will debut in the role in September. Just in time for Monza, if we think about coincidences…)”
