Italian journalist Leo Turrini, who is famously very close to proceedings at Scuderia Ferrari, reflects on the Maranello team’s latest announcement in his newest quotidiano.net blog entry, as Ferrari has decided to change its technical department with emphasis on performance. Leo Turrini confirmed that Rory Byrne’s influence got less over the years and that now it seems like he is coming back with a bigger role:
“I would like to point out that the Ferrari press release highlights the advice of Rory Byrne, the South African designer of Schumi’s winning cars. He’s a genius, Byrne. He has his years, that’s true, but “the old hen makes good broth” (I hope, eh). He has always remained in Ferrari’s orbit, but they very rarely listened to him. Now they will open their ears, given the disaster of the SF1000.
On the circuits the French sporting director Laurent Mekies will continue to command but if he comes back to quote Chandok I will change my job. Simone Resta will have to think about the chassis again and his contribution should perhaps be enhanced more. Enrico Gualtieri remains in charge of the engine and the sooner he decides to recall the engineer Iotti from production, the better.”- Leo Turrini explained.
