As the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season draws closer, F1 fans have been given a chance to look back. On F1’s social media channels, a ranking of the five most viral moments from last year has been released, highlighting some of the episodes that generated the biggest reactions online, with Ferrari once again playing a central role.
Drivers will return to the track for the first official tests in Barcelona on January 26, a historic date for Formula 1 as it will mark the debut of the new technical regulations. Before looking ahead to this new era, however, it is worth taking a step back and revisiting the moments that defined last season from a media and fan-engagement perspective.
The top 5
Formula 1 shared the top five most viral moments of the season on X, a list that includes some of the most talked-about incidents and several key episodes that had a significant impact on the outcome of the championship.
In fifth place is the widely discussed collision between George Russell and Max Verstappen at the end of the Spanish Grand Prix. On that occasion, the Dutch driver received a 10-second time penalty, losing valuable points in his title fight.
Fourth place is occupied by one of the most frightening incidents of the season, which involved Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto during the Sprint race at his home Grand Prix. The impact was extremely heavy, but fortunately it did not result in any serious consequences for the driver.
In third place comes one of Ferrari’s most difficult Formula 1 weekends of the 2025 season: the double retirement at the Dutch Grand Prix. Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were forced to retire early from the race. Hamilton lost control of his car, while Leclerc was involved in a collision with Andrea Kimi Antonelli during an overtaking attempt by the Italian driver.
Second place among the most viral moments of last season is taken by the contact between the two McLaren cars in Canada, an incident that sparked widespread debate among fans and experts alike.
At the top of the ranking, in first place, is Lando Norris’s victory that secured him his first world championship at the final race of the season. It was a historic moment not only for the driver, but also for McLaren, and one that dominated online conversations across the Formula 1 world.
