Ferrari in Imola with updates, Fred Vasseur: "Difficult to say in advance where we will be"

The Maranello team is preparing to change its skin. Yes, because the SF-24 will have several new features for this year’s first Italian round. Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur commented on the upcoming Imola updates, which were already tested during the recent filming day at the Fiorano circuit.

In Maranello, they naturally hope that these developments will bring them closer to Red Bull. The Imola package is quite substantial, so it’s reasonable to expect a step forward.

In an interview for the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica, when asked if he was satisfied with the updates tested at Fiorano, Fred Vasseur explained that it’s not easy to predict where Ferrari will be in Imola.

“It’s difficult to say beforehand. The truth is that the grid is so close that a tenth of a second can make a huge difference in terms of starting position and race performance. Any small thing we can bring can pay off; it’s not like in the past when an evolution would gain you 7 or 8 tenths.” – he pointed out – “We are all chasing the details. The most important thing is to improve and stay ahead, no matter by how much. I hope we are heading in the right direction and, even if it’s small, it’s a step that helps us in the fight with Red Bull and McLaren.”

“I am focused on ourselves,” Fred Vasseur explained. “I think it’s a mistake to look at others. Much depends on track to track, but also on how well we use the car and the resources available.”

The Ferrari Team Principal also talked about the fight for second place in the championship. However, Fred Vasseur wants to stay focused on the main goal: fighting for the victory.

“It’s still early. After six races, last year we were in no man’s land in terms of performance. We managed to climb back up, and it’s important to maintain this trend and this pace. It will be a long road until the end. We are second at the moment; you can be there at the end after a fight or with regrets. This year, we can fight for a victory every weekend, and that’s a good feeling. This is more valuable than thinking about the championship.” – Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur concluded.
