The sunshine is now out after the third free practice session for the 2022 Hungarian GP at the Hungaroring racetrack in Mogyorod, near Budapest – and if it stays like this for the next two hours then the track will be bone dry for qualifying and cars will go out on slick tyres. The forecasts suggested we were set for storms and heavy rain all day – but the radar is now showing the showers dissipating.
All of the teams are going to need to be on their toes when the qualifying session starts at 3pm.
In an intervew for Sky Sports F1 during the third free practice session at the Hungaroring, Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto admitted he would prefer dry conditions to what we saw in the first part of FP3:
“For me, Mattia, I would prefer it stayed dry, but for the car as well. The rain is always more difficult. I think it can be a lottery, especially here in Hungary,” he said – “The asphalt is still very hot, so even if it’s wet and raining, the track itself can evolve very quickly and you need to always try to find the right window for the temperature of the tyres. When the track is evolving, it’s never an easy job.” – the Ferrari boss said.
