Ferrari is preparing to say goodbye to two crucial figures involved in the development of the 2026 power unit
Important news has emerged from Ferrari, reported exclusively by the Italian website AutoRacer.it, where the Scuderia will have to part ways with important figures linked to the project for the 2026 power units. This is a fundamental area under the new regulations that will come into effect starting next season.
At Maranello, the reshuffling of staff continues, but this time the departures are heavy ones. The 2025 championship has been a major disappointment so far, and a big comeback is expected given the great opportunity presented by the coming season. Losing key personnel in such a delicate area could be a serious setback for the Scuderia.

According to AutoRacer.it, Ferrari will have to part with the head of the 2026 power unit project, Wolf Zimmermann. The German engineer could join Mattia Binotto in the Audi project. Zimmermann had been at Ferrari for eleven years and had been leading the engine project for the next season since 2023.
Ferrari may also face another loss with Lars Schmidt, who is also said to be heading towards Audi. He is the chief engineer responsible for the development of the internal combustion section of the engine. Losing these two figures would represent a hard blow for the Scuderia.
On the other hand, trust has been placed in Enrico Gualtieri, who will now have full responsibility for the power unit project. Rumors suggest that Mercedes could have a major advantage in this area next year. It will be Ferrari’s task to ensure that another era of domination like the one seen in the past does not happen again.
As Fred Vasseur stated during the Italian Grand Prix, the team is fully focused on 2026. The same applies, however, to all of Ferrari’s rivals, many of whom have already put a stop to development updates for this current season some time ago.
