Singapore, Ferrari 5th and 7th
With such a poor qualifying performance, it was hard for Ferrari to dream big in the Singapore GP. Clearly, the 5th and 7th places achieved by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, respectively, are disappointing when viewed from Friday’s perspective, when Ferrari was clearly the best car alongside McLaren. However, Saturday condemned both the Monegasque and the Spaniard to a recovery race on the second-worst circuit of the calendar after Monte Carlo. Team principal Frederic Vasseur acknowledges this and tries to salvage what he can from the weekend.
Frederic Vasseur’s comments
“It was a great Sunday for us and a positive race on both sides of the garage. It might have been a bit more frustrating because we compromised our weekend on Saturday, but overall, the pace was good,” the Frenchman commented to Sky Sport F1. Frederic Vasseur, however, can’t hide his regrets: “I believe Charles was on par with Lando in the last 25 laps. It was a good recovery, and in the end, we brought home some good points for the weekend. There was nothing magical about it, but starting from 9th and 10th, I think it was hard to do a better job today.” – the French manager pointed out at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix, which was held earlier today at the 4.94-kilometre Marina Bay Street Circuit.
“We had the same lap times as Lando over the last 30 laps. We were with McLaren today and on Friday, but we missed something on Saturday. We will have time to analyze everything before Austin, but I think it’s positive to end the weekend on a good note.”
Looking ahead to Austin
Now Formula 1 takes a month-long break, returning to the track in Texas on the weekend of October 20th: “Now there’s the break, and it’s nice to end this way,” added Frederic Vasseur. “We’ll use the next few weeks to develop the car, like everyone else, and bring the last upgrade. We have four weeks ahead of us, and we’ll do our best to try to address the car’s weaknesses.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded.
