The podium finish scored by Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz in the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix allows the Maranello team to reach McLaren in the Formula 1 Constructor Standings, but the focus of the Maranello team is very much projected on the 2022 season.
Carlos Sainz, Ferrari’s driver for the 2021 championship, therefore comes from a good result in Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Spaniard actually finished fourth on track but after the disqualification of former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, now at Aston Martin, Carlos took, at least for the moment, his second podium of the season. A result that allows him to overtake his team-mate Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ standings and Ferrari to catch up with Mclaren for the constructors at 163 points.
From the start of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship, the maximum goal admitted by the Ferrari men was the third place in the constructors standings. Objective at the moment possible, with 12 races to go. But Carlos Sainz said their priority is elsewhere.
“That battle is still on and it’s always going to be on until the end of the season, I think, because we are very close in performance. But as a team, we have higher priorities than beating McLaren to third in the constructors. I think we want to keep improving as a team and we want to keep building this this team to try and be as professional and as good, as complete as we can, for the opportunity to come next year to go and win the title [then] we are ready for it. So first comes the improvements as a team and then really the other one should fall as a consequence. But we are not really obsessed with the fight and we are focussed fully on trying to improve on trying to to be the best thing that we can be before the end of the season.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz said.
