According to the Friday Free Practice analysis made by leading German automobile ‘Auto motor und sport’, all teams are worried because the Pirelli tyres wear out very quickly at the Silverstone Circuit.
However, team radio suggest that Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull used higher engine modes than Mercedes on Friday, which would suggest that the Maranello team’s prospects in Silverstone are not very encouraging.
As reported by Auto motor und sport, Mercedes wins their time against Ferrari in slow corners and the highspeed corners. Mercedes are also dominating in the longrun: 0.4s faster than Verstappen on softs + 1s faster on medium tyres. Scuderia Ferrari is 1.3s behind on the medium tyres.
Scuderia Ferrari’s afternoon Friday session has been overshadowed by their tyre wear problems, as confirmed by Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto, who fears a difficult weekend for the Italian side: “The problem will haunt us until Sunday. We’ll work on all the areas of the setup to get the problem under control.” – he explained.
