Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc feels it is “difficult to put the blame on one or the other” when analysing the cause of the contact between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen that saw the Red Bull driver crash out of the 2021 British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit.
“It was difficult to see, everything happened very quick. Obviously I could see there were quite a few things going on around me and yeah, I think it’s a racing incident, it’s quite difficult to put the blame on one or the either. Obviously there was a space on the inside, maybe Lewis was not completely at the apex, but it is also true that Max was quite aggressive on the outside so I think things happen, what is most important today is that Max is unhamrted and he is fine.” – Charles Leclerc explained, immediately after the race.
On the other had, Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto believes that Lewis Hamilton was the main responsable for the crash with Max Verstappen and that the penalty was justified: “Very aggressive moves for Lewis and Max in the first lap. I think the penalty on Lewis is fair. The stewards did a good job.” – Mattia Binotto said, as reported by the Italian media.
