Fred Vasseur may miss the Silverstone weekend due to a family bereavement affecting the Ferrari team principal. It’s a difficult personal moment for Frédéric Vasseur, who could be forced to skip all or part of the British Grand Prix weekend scheduled for Thursday, July 3. The reason is linked to a serious loss in his family, which already caused the Ferrari boss to leave the Austrian GP paddock early.
According to French sources, Chantal Fontan, née Vasseur, passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 76. The obituary published on Libra Memoria confirms that she was a close relative of Frédéric Vasseur. The funeral service is set for Thursday, July 3 at 14:30, at the Sainte-Thérèse Church in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, near Lyon.
Fred Vasseur likely absent from Silverstone: what we know
The official family announcement includes the names of children Frédéric and Caroline and grandchildren Noé, Léo, and Nathan, who shared the news with deep sorrow. The timing of the funeral, which coincides with media day at Silverstone, suggests that the French team principal will likely miss the traditional press commitments ahead of the race weekend.
During the Austrian GP weekend, Fred Vasseur had left the paddock early, which initially sparked speculation about internal tensions. However, it is now clear that his departure was entirely due to personal and family reasons. Ferrari, out of respect, has not released any official statement on the matter.
At this time, it is unknown whether Fred Vasseur will return in time for Friday’s on-track activities or if he will be temporarily replaced by other senior team members and miss the entire Silverstone weekend.
