After a 15-minute delay, we were under way for the second practice session of the day at Zandvoort and we had 60 minutes to get a clearer idea on who is going to dominate on this track in the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.
This morning Lewis Hamilton has some issues with his radio and at the very start of his second practice session, it was still causing him problems, while Max Verstappen was back in business in the opening five minutes of the session and set the quickest time in the early stages with a lap time of 1:13.465. Carlos Sainz was just +0.079s behind him with his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc third and George Russell fourth.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was having another solid start to his session and went on top of the timesheet with a time of 1:13.412. After a quick return to the pits, Lewis Hamilton was back out on track and went sixth, +0.657s off the pace of the Spaniard. That was also a much better showing for Charles Leclerc on his flying lap: the Monegasque driver put himself second on the timesheet but over a second behind his teammate at the top, as Max Verstappen was back out on track, looking to jump in front of that Ferrari duo: but after putting in two laps, Max Verstappen was back into the pits with only the fifth fastest time.
On the other hand, we saw a brilliant lap from George Russell, who moved up to second on the timesheet, just +0.306s behind Carlos Sainz. Fernando Alonso was now in third with Lance Stroll taking fourth. But it was Charles Leclerc’s time for a new fast run: he was flying under the radar today but that lap has Charles Leclerc back on top with a 1:12.345.

The top four are now separated by a tenth of a second with Norris in fourth just +1.03s off the Ferrari. Both of the Red Bull cars were back in the garage but at this stage it was not the day that the home fans will have been after: Max Verstappen was currently the better of the two drivers but he sat in 8th, +0.697s off the pace whilst Sergio Perez found himself down in 12th.
Meanwhile, on the timesheet it was the two Ferrari cars that were leading the way: Charles Leclerc set the standard with a 1:12.345 lap, +0.004 ahead of his Maranello team-mate. They were followed by Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and George Russell, as we had our second red flag of the day with 15 minutes until the end of FP2, when Yuki Tsunoda’s Alpha Tauri found itself beached just off the track.
The session was back under way, but time was rapidly running away from the drivers, with just four minutes left from Friday’s action at Circuit Zandvoort. And indeed it was the Ferrari F1-75 cars that asserted their dominance in the second session of the day, the pace of Charles Leclerc putting him top with a 1:12.345. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, ended FP2 just +0.004s behind him with Hamilton in third.
Norris and Russell complete the top five with Verstappen and Perez struggling and finishing the session in 8th and 12th.
