There have been five different pole sitters at the Baku City Circuit, but only one driver has claimed multiple pole positions.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc became the first to achieve repeat poles at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2022. The Monegasque has taken pole position at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix for three consecutive seasons, making him the only driver to achieve multiple poles at this event.
Nico Rosberg took the inaugural pole in 2016, followed by Lewis Hamilton in 2017, Sebastian Vettel in 2018, Valtteri Bottas in 2019, and Charles Leclerc in 2021, making him the fifth different pole sitter in as many races at the venue.
Drivers from Monte Carlo lead with the most pole positions here, with three, just ahead of Germany’s two.
Ferrari holds the record for the most poles in Baku
The Maranello team secured their fourth pole position at the Baku City Circuit in 2023, surpassing Mercedes for the most pole positions at this track. There have only been two occasions where a team locked out the front row at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix: Mercedes achieved this in both 2017 and 2019. The gap between the fastest and slowest pole laps at this track is 2.263 seconds, with the slowest in 2016 and the fastest in 2019.
The 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix marked the first time at Baku City Circuit where the polesitter failed to maintain the lead by the end of the first lap.
Victories at Baku City Circuit have been claimed from the front row of the grid on three occasions.

A total of 357 racing laps have been completed at the Baku City Circuit to date.
Former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel and current Ferrari man Charles Leclerc are the only drivers to have led laps at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix without securing a win. The German led 37 laps without victory, while the Monegasque has led 23 laps so far.
