It was already clear from the outset that it would be an almost impossible mission. The characteristics of the Lusail track suit McLaren very well, and the early sessions confirmed the predictions. McLaren, unlike a struggling Ferrari at the start with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, dominated the Sprint Race of the Qatar GP and is strongly aiming for the constructors’ title.
The British team will have its first match point already in Sunday’s race at Lusail and will try in every way to wrap up the world championship as soon as possible. As for Ferrari, the Scuderia will need a miracle in qualifying to try to start as close as possible to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have clear ideas
Despite a rather difficult Sprint Race in the early stages, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz seem to know what to improve for qualifying. “Without a good qualifying session, it will be really hard to exploit the race pace,” said the Monegasque driver. “Starting as far forward as possible will be crucial, and we know what we need to work on.”
His teammate analyzed the difficulties encountered in the Sprint. “We struggled quite a bit. On the first lap, I practically had no grip,” Carlos Sainz said. “Russell seemed to have more; I think they are a tenth faster than us.” – Carlos Sainz concluded at the end of the Sprint Race which was held at the 5.419-kilometre Lusail International Circuit.
