Ferrari is “the first of the defeated” — that’s how Carlo Vanzini described the Maranello team’s result in the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix. However, the well-known Sky Sport F1 commentator also identified some encouraging elements.
In Austria, Scuderia Ferrari introduced a new floor on the SF-25, which made its debut during Friday’s free practice sessions. After gathering data from test driver Dino Beganovic, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton, the team opted to use the upgrade in the race as well. The solid performances delivered by both drivers of the Maranello-based team suggest that the new development package is effective. According to Carlo Vanzini, the Italian commentator for Sky Sport F1, Ferrari should be pleased with the progress made over the weekend, though it is still not time for complete satisfaction.
Expectations for this Formula 1 season were undoubtedly very high. After a difficult start, Ferrari now seems to have understood some of the critical weaknesses of the SF-25, and the new floor appears to have brought some improvements.
Encouraging Results
Following the Austrian Grand Prix, Carlo Vanzini published a video on his YouTube channel, in which he discussed the key points of the race, focusing particularly on Ferrari’s performance. He said that the team did well and that the floor upgrade worked, referring to Ferrari as “the first of the second group, the first of the defeated.” He acknowledged that this was not enough, adding that in a moment when the team realizes it is no longer achieving the objectives it had set over the winter, it can at least see the glass half full — recognizing that Ferrari is managing to react to difficult situations.
According to Vanzini, the Maranello-based team demonstrated the ability to respond both to on-track challenges and to the constant flow of rumors and speculation surrounding the team. He pointed out that the team is reacting not only to external pressure but likely also to internal expectations and tension.
Lewis Hamilton’s Race
In the second half of the video posted to YouTube, Carlo Vanzini also shared his opinion on the Austrian Grand Prix performance of Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion finished in fourth place. Carlo Vanzini considered it the Briton’s best weekend of the season so far and noted that the British driver seemed pleased overall. However, he also observed that when Hamilton looked at the timing screens, he shook his head as if to say that things were still not quite right.
Lewis Hamilton’s first real challenge is with his teammate Charles Leclerc. According to Carlo Vanzini, the gap between them remains significant. He remarked that it is clear that the Monegasque driver has the upper hand in race conditions, and emphasized that Charles Leclerc is not an easy teammate for anyone. He added that Lewis Hamilton needs a track like Silverstone — and that on a circuit such as that, the British driver needs to be ahead of his teammate or at the very least much, much closer to him.
