Marina Bay’s Friday turns red: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz shine in both free practice sessions, bringing a smile to the team and Fred Vasseur’s face. Speaking to Sky microphones, Fred Vasseur explained what will be necessary in the Singapore qualifying session to secure a good result.
The French team principal of the Prancing Horse wanted to keep a low profile. Fred Vasseur focuses solely on his team, regardless of others’ difficulties: “Red Bull? Tomorrow, they will probably react and find their pace, but today they had a tough day,” he admitted. “But we need to focus on ourselves. I’m not looking at Red Bull; we already have enough to deal with.”
The considerations regarding Ferrari’s Friday are cautiously optimistic: “It’s the best of the season. Overall, we’ve done a good job, even though it was somewhat unexpected.” – he said after the second free practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix.
The former boss of Alfa Sauber doesn’t want to get carried away and keeps his feet on the ground: “Qualifying is tomorrow. It will be a matter of tires, but it’s certainly better to start the weekend like this rather than in the middle of the pack.”
Fred Vasseur’s calm optimism also comes through in his predictions for qualifying: “It’s difficult to say if we’ll be in the fight for pole position. Tomorrow, we’ll all be very close, and we need to focus on ourselves. We have room for improvement, but that applies to everyone.”
In his analysis of the pole position battle session, the Frenchman is clear about what will be crucial. “We need to focus on ourselves and tire preparation for the flying lap. That will be a crucial factor. Then, of course, the car’s setup will also be important, but so far, everything has gone well. It’s been a good Friday for the drivers, both have good pace, and there’s a great spirit of competition within the team.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded.
