Ferrari is falling to pieces in Bahrain: that’s the first thing that comes to mind when, aside from being nearly a second behind McLaren, Charles Leclerc’s wing mirror detaches from his car, putting him at risk of investigation. In fact, halfway through the final free practice session, the Monegasque was forced to return to the pits to deal with the mirror, which had flown off entirely.
No contact or on-track incident, as one might assume. Leclerc was simply pushing his SF-25 and at one point, at the end of the straight he was on, the mirror detached suddenly without warning. Needless to say, comments online were quick and to the point.
Charles Leclerc’s mirror flies off: risk of investigation?
Now Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari might be at risk of an investigation because the mirror was either poorly secured or not fixed in a sufficiently safe manner. The investigation could concern the safety of cars on track which, in this case, was not ensured.
In short, Ferrari continues to struggle, still forced to keep changing setups during free practice. The new floor brought to Bahrain has also split opinions within the team. On one hand, Lewis Hamilton appeared enthusiastic, while on the other, Charles Leclerc pointed out how far Ferrari still is from McLaren, which remains well ahead.
It remains to be seen what will happen now following the incident. In the meantime, Ferrari hopes to keep up with its rivals in qualifying for the Bahrain GP, to avoid once again starting from the back and facing potential difficulties during the race. Not only that: in Bahrain, almost everyone is complaining about the high temperatures, which continue to prevent the tyres from generating proper grip.
For this reason, Pirelli responded by lowering the pressure on the rear tyres. The track will have the final say, and the Sakhir circuit is already delivering plenty of excitement.
