Charles Leclerc commented on Ferrari’s disaster in qualifying at the Imola GP, where both Ferraris failed to reach Q3 for the first time in history. The Tifosi started leaving the stands even before Q3 began. This image alone explains the disaster Ferrari staged in qualifying at the Imola GP, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton both excluded from Q3. An unthinkable result before the weekend, even though Ferrari arrived in Emilia Romagna without being among the favorites.
The SF-25 has shown several limitations so far this season compared to those rivals who, during winter testing, seemed capable of fighting for the championship. Despite this, after the first two practice sessions, the drivers expressed satisfaction with their race pace, and a third row start in qualifying seemed a realistic goal for Imola Saturday. However, that third row is now five places away, making the comeback in Sunday’s race even more difficult.
Ferrari cars had never before missed Q3 at Imola, not even in 2020, a year marked by the FIA agreement that heavily limited the SF1000’s performance. This fact makes what happened this weekend even more disappointing and disastrous, especially considering this is likely the last time Formula 1 cars will race at the circuit dedicated to Enzo and Dino Ferrari.
Charles Leclerc was speechless after qualifying
Charles Leclerc appeared more downcast than ever in the post-qualifying interviews and had nothing to say about what happened on Imola Saturday. He said the first thing to do was to apologize. When there is so much passion around a team, one must apologize if the team fails to pass Q2. It hurts the drivers too, he asked fans to believe him. He said the current level of performance is absolutely unacceptable and that he struggles to find an explanation.
