Singapore Grand Prix Highlights

Since joining the Formula 1 calendar in 2008, the Marina Bay Street Circuit has hosted 14 races, becoming the first F1 night race. The Singapore Grand Prix was not held in 2020 or 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Winners and Records
Six different drivers have triumphed at the Singapore Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel leads with five victories, followed by Lewis Hamilton with four. Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Sergio Perez, and Carlos Sainz have each won once.

Former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel and future Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton are the only drivers to achieve consecutive wins at Marina Bay, with the German holding the record for the most consecutive victories, winning three times in a row from 2011 to 2013. Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz are unique in winning at Singapore despite not being World Champions, although Rosberg’s 2016 win came before his championship title.

Recent Trends
Carlos Sainz’s victory for Scuderia Ferrari in the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit introduced a streak of four different winners at the track, highlighting the event’s increasing competitiveness and unpredictability.

Singapore Grand Prix Team and Race Records

Mercedes, Red Bull, and Scuderia Ferrari each hold the record for the most team wins at the Singapore Grand Prix, with four victories each. In 2019, the Italian side made history by becoming the first team to achieve a 1-2 finish at this race.

The closest finish at the Singapore Grand Prix occurred in 2010, when Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso edged out Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel by a mere 0.293 seconds.

Only two races at the Marina Bay Street Circuit have been won by a margin of more than ten seconds. Conversely, nine of the races have seen victory margins of less than five seconds, including seven of the last eight races.

Notably, three races have been decided by less than a second: 2010, 2016, and 2023.

Singapore Grand Prix Pole Position and Podium Facts

At the Singapore Grand Prix, there have been only three instances where the polesitter failed to finish on the podium. Lewis Hamilton retired from the race after starting from pole in 2012, and Sebastian Vettel did the same in 2017. Felipe Massa, who started from pole in 2008 for Scuderia Ferrari, ended up in 13th place after a disastrous race.

The most remarkable podium finish from the furthest back on the grid at Marina Bay Street Circuit was achieved by Fernando Alonso, who won the 2008 race starting from 15th position. There have been four races at this track where all of the top three qualifiers went on to finish on the podium. In the 2015, 2016, and 2018 races, the top three starters finished in the exact order they began.
