Scuderia Ferrari introduced a new internal combustion engine (ICE) and a new turbocharger on the F1-75 car of Charles Leclerc in last weekend’s Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), which led to the Monegasque driver starting from outside the top ten in Austin.
The new components are a step forward in the Maranello team’s plan to completely fix the reliability issues which affected the F1-75 cars of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the first part of the season and led to many points lost due to technical failures, such as the ones in Spain, Azerbaijan or Austria.
According to Michael Schmidt, a journalist from the more reputable Auto, Motor und Sport, Carlos Sainz will also take a new engine in the next round of the 2022 Formula 1 season, the Mexican Grand Prix, as Ferrari continue to test the upgraded parts in view of 2023: “The problem for Ferrari was that they didn’t get the new valves ready in time. Now they are here and mounted in Charles’s fresh power unit. We will see if the new valves are working as expected. I expect Carlos Sainz to get a new power unit in Mexico.” – Michael Schmidt explained.
“It is looking good. However Mattia Binotto told me that it is not yet certain that all power unit problems are solved with this, but it is a clear step forward.” – the Auto, Motor und Sport journalist pointed out.

Michael Schmidt also provided some details about the Red Bull cost cap saga: said that FIA is expected to make a decision in regards to the cost cap ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, most probably on Thursday or Friday this week. According to AMuS, Red Bull will most likely get a pretty hefty fine and deduction in wind tunnel time for the future.
