According to Michael Schmidt from AMUS (Auto Motor und Sport), when Mattia Binotto resigned from his position as Ferrari team principal, John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna already had Frederic Vasseur as the replacement but the Frenchman also had other businesses such as being a driver coach [Pourchaire], and those activities could not continue as a Ferrari team principal, so this had to be discussed.
As head of the Ferrari Formula 1 Racing Division, you also have to be in Maranello 24/7, which Frederic Vasseur did not do at Sauber (Hinwil), so that‘s why everything took longer and the announcement came a bit later. But now Fred Vasseur will always be present in Maranello.
Regarding the team principals, Andreas Seidl will become the team boss for Audi/Sauber in 2025/2026. At the moment he is doing work behind the scenes to prepare Sauber for Audi. Audi’s “official” work will start in 2025, and that‘s probably when Seidl will become TP. Michael Schmidt said that he believes that Binotto will take a break and see how things are developing in Formula 1 and also at Ferrari. He doesn’t see Mattia Binotto working under Andreas Seidl as team principal in Alfa Sauber.
German F1 expert Michael Schmidt also pointed out that Scuderia Ferrari had to reduce the power unit power due to problems with the valves during the 2022 Formula 1 season. The issue has now been fixed and we should expect Ferrari to pick up with the engine power like it was at the beginning of the 2022 campaign. It is still considered the strongest power unit.

Auto Motor und Sport confirmed that the France upgrade package gave more downforce but the aero became imbalanced and that has caused the tyre degradation issues. Michael Schmidt said Ferrari knows what went wrong and also mentioned the rumors that Frederic Vasseur is going to bring Simone Resta back to Ferrari. Schmidt said that Frederic Vasseur needs to hope that the new car is competitive, so that the transition is smooth and does not cause a step backwards.
