Ferrari, strategies at the top
Not only did he step onto the podium to receive the trophy for Ferrari as the winning team of the 2024 United States GP. Strategist Ravin Jain was undoubtedly one of the key figures behind Ferrari’s one-two finish in Austin, as it was primarily thanks to the undercut that Carlos Sainz managed to overtake Max Verstappen in the race for second place behind Charles Leclerc. It was inevitable that both drivers of the Scuderia would give credit to the English engineer of Indian origin, who replaced Inaki Rueda as head of strategy at the start of 2023, for his excellent race management at the Circuit of the Americas.
Charles Leclerc praises Ravin Jain
“He was incredible, I have a lot of trust in Ravin,” said Charles Leclerc during the post-race press conference at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. “He did an excellent job and is also quite young for such a position. But he is always very, very calm, which is really necessary to do that kind of job. He always manages emotions very well, which perhaps used to be one of our weak points when it came to strategies. With Ravin, a lot has changed, and I think we currently have a very strong track team.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.

Carlos Sainz also didn’t fail to give credit to the engineer for Ferrari’s improvement in an area where the Maranello team had traditionally been lacking, while also emphasizing the car’s progress: “I think the credit goes to Ravin for the progress made by Ferrari’s strategy team over the past two years. A lot of work has been done behind the scenes, and obviously, Jain has played a key role. Then, as I’ve said many times, having a good car on race day always helps make the strategy work, and it seems to me that this year we have a very strong car on Sundays. The best example is this weekend, where I had a car that allowed me to be the first to stop and extend the life of the Hard tire without degrading more than others.” – the Spaniard explained.
“It’s something,” Carlos Sainz continued, “that in the past gave me trouble, especially last year. I remember pitting on lap 14 of a 60-lap race in Singapore and still making it to the end. With any previous car, that wouldn’t have been possible. So making bold strategic moves on race day wouldn’t have been easy, and we would have seemed crazier for trying. This year, however, we have a car that uses the tires less, making us more competitive in the race, which gives us more flexibility and better opportunities to play with strategy.” – the Spanish driver concluded at the end of the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
