Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc believes kerbs should continue to remain present on corner exits following the Formula One track limit debate which returned during the last few races of the 2022 Formula 1 championship.
The debate regarding the FIA’s policing of track limits has once again been a key focus since the race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The governing body tried to make track limits a black-and-white matter, with the white track boundary line to be used consistently as the mediator between on-track and off-track. However, an issue in the qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix led to a grid penalty received by Red Bull Mexican driver Sergio Perez, who despite making it to the final part of qualifying, had his lap time deleted in Q2 only after the end of the session, with race control not able to catch his infringement.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was again the centre of attention at the Hungaroring circui in the Hungarian Grand Prix, as race stewards had to give the Mexican driver a lap back during Q2 after initially deleting his best lap time.
Both moments took place at turns where either a rumble-strip or sausage kerb had previously been mounted:

“I think the best probably, or me personally what I prefer was the kerb, because the kerb you could actually feel it” – the Ferrari driver explained, when asked to comment on the matter – “Sometimes last year we used the kerb as a reference for the track limits and that you can actually feel it on the steering wheel and also when you are on the limit of the kerb you can also feel it. So it’s much easier to be very, very precise. With the white line we are so low… five centimetres out and you don’t really realise it as a driver. So it makes it tricky.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc added.
