It was a nightmare Friday for Scuderia Ferrari at Interlagos, with Lewis Hamilton now facing a potential penalty after allegedly ignoring yellow flags during Charles Leclerc’s spin. The Maranello team endured a difficult Sprint qualifying session at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where the SF-25 failed to show competitive pace. Meanwhile, Lando Norris claimed an important pole position for McLaren, ahead of the impressive Andrea Kimi Antonelli in second place, while Max Verstappen could only manage sixth and now hopes for rain in the Sprint.
As always, Interlagos delivered drama and excitement. The Sprint qualifying session was fast-paced, chaotic, and unpredictable until the final seconds. In the end, the pre-session expectations were met, with a McLaren on top. Lando Norris secured pole position with a lap time of 1:09.243, followed by young Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who impressively outqualified Oscar Piastri in the other MCL39. George Russell and Fernando Alonso also performed strongly, both finishing ahead of Max Verstappen.
For Ferrari, however, it was a session to forget. From the opening minutes, both drivers struggled to extract performance from the SF-25. Charles Leclerc could do no better than eighth, while Lewis Hamilton’s struggles were even greater, as he was eliminated in SQ2. To make matters worse, Lewis Hamilton is now under investigation for a potential yellow flag infringement, with a decision from the stewards expected in the coming hours.
Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton under investigation: what happened in Brazil
The race stewards have summoned Lewis Hamilton to explain a possible breach of the yellow flag regulations. The incident occurred after a spin from Charles Leclerc, who lost control of his Ferrari SF-25 at Turn 10. Lewis Hamilton, who was at risk of elimination at that moment, was on a flying lap and may have tried to maintain his speed through the affected sector.
However, his lap time — not fast enough to progress to the next stage — was later deleted because it was set under double yellow flag conditions. The stewards’ decision is expected soon, and Lewis Hamilton could face a grid penalty for the Sprint race, capping off a difficult and frustrating day for Ferrari in Brazil.
