Frédéric Vasseur has confirmed that Ferrari will introduce further upgrades soon, insisting that not every development step produces an immediate performance gain and that the team must continue pushing despite a difficult run of results.
The Ferrari team principal faced a complicated post-race media session in Baku, where he had to explain a fifth consecutive Grand Prix without a podium while also dealing with uncomfortable questions surrounding Christian Horner effectively putting himself forward for a possible Ferrari role. Running the Maranello team is rarely straightforward, and when results disappoint, it is inevitable that the team principal comes under greater scrutiny.
Frédéric Vasseur keeps faith in Ferrari’s upgrade programme
Ferrari’s recent development programme has not yet produced the turnaround the team had hoped for. Between chassis developments, the Macarena project, ADUO1 and ADUO2, the Scuderia has at times appeared to lose ground rather than close the gap. That repeated search for a breakthrough upgrade without a decisive breakthrough has increased frustration throughout the team, particularly among the drivers.
The limitations remained visible during the Azerbaijan weekend, even after Ferrari made progress with deployment and set-up, as highlighted in the Baku FP3 analysis of the SF-26.
Frédéric Vasseur, however, is trying to keep the team focused and motivated through the difficult period. Speaking in comments collected by Automoto.it, the French manager confirmed that further developments are on the way.
“I won’t give details on the dates, but we’ll bring upgrades soon,” Frédéric Vasseur explained.
Ferrari must keep developing despite future regulation changes
The Ferrari team principal then took a longer-term view, stressing that development gains do not always appear immediately and pointing out that the Scuderia cannot afford to stop pushing simply because major regulatory changes are approaching.
“McLaren brought something this weekend, Mercedes will do so shortly and we will do it as soon as possible. Sometimes you make steps that don’t pay off immediately, but in the long term. Even with the regulatory changes coming, you have to keep pushing,” Frédéric Vasseur said.
That approach reflects the difficult balance Ferrari must strike between extracting more performance from its current package and preparing for what comes next. The team has already introduced several technical developments this season, with the wider evolution of the car and power unit continuing to be tracked through Ferrari technical analysis.
For Frédéric Vasseur, the message remains that progress cannot always be judged solely by the immediate stopwatch gain from a single upgrade. Ferrari intends to keep developing, even while the pressure created by its recent results continues to grow.
