Rumors in the Montreal paddock suggest that Scuderia Ferrari might be doing a strategic move for Charles Leclerc in the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. Today, the Maranello team changed to a new ICE, MGU-H, MGU-K and CE, but no new turbo. Tomorrow they might get a new turbo and other new power unit parts in order to fill up the power unit pool again. This would obviously mean that Charles leclerc will start the Canadian Grand Prix from last place on Sunday.
The information has been confirmed by engineer and F1 Technical Analyst Piergiuseppe Donadoni on his Twitter account and was also discussed by Ted Kravitz for Sky Sports during the second free practice session.
Ted Kravitz has garnered some views on why Charles Leclerc hasn’t replaced his turbocharger and taken a 10-place grid penalty yet, as it was expected he would:
“The thought is maybe that not only will tomorrow bring a change of turbo, but a whole new internal combustion unit as well. Of course, to do that they needed to take Power Unit 3 today, but then they’ll take Power Unit 4 tomorrow to get that into the pool which will mean a start at the back of the grid – but with four more elements in the pool. That’s just a theory running up and down here in the pitlane.” – he explained.
