Scuderia Ferrari have confirmed four Formula 1 reserve and development drivers for the 2023 F1 campaign, who will have the task of providing support to full-time drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Ex-Alfa Romeo Formula 1 driver Antonio Giovinazzi and 2021 Formula 2 vice-champion Robert Shwartzman – who have both got the chance to complete several Formula 1 runs with the Maranello team, will share the role of reserve driver, while also working on the new Ferrari simulator, which has been used in the last two years.
Antonio Giovinazzi has 62 race starts and is hoping to find another seat on the grid in the next season. He initially made two substitute appearances for Sauber in early 2017 and then became main driver for the Swiss side during 2019 and 2021, partering 2007 Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen.
Robert Shwartzman battled new McLaren F1 driver Oscar Piastri for the Formula 2 title in 2021 and also got the chance to take part in two Friday practice sessions behind the wheel of the F1-75 car last season, at the COTA circuit and in Abu Dhabi towards the end of the 2022 Formula One championship.

GP3 and Formula 2 race winner Antonio Fuoco has been confirmed as a Ferrari development driver for the next season, just like GT star Davide Rigon. The Maranello team confirmed that Antonio Fuoco and Davide Rigon “have proved their worth in terms of providing the engineers with precise and reliable feedback” as a result of their simulator work.
All four drivers will take on racing programmes in 2023 alongside their Formula 1 roles, while Antonio Giovinazzi and Antonio Fuoco will also take part in the World Endurance Championship in the 499P Hypercar. Robert Shwartzman and Davide Rigon will race the new 296 GT3; Shwartzman in the SRO GT World Challenge Europe and Rigon in the SRO series as well as WEC and the IMSA Endurance Cup.
