Ferrari confident Carlos Sainz can stay with team beyond 2022. Ferrari confident Carlos can stay with team beyond 2022.

Scuderia Ferrari signed Carlos Sainz for the next two seasons, but the Italian side’s Team Principal Mattia Binotto has already admitted that he would like the Spaniard to stay in the team beyond 2022 and to build a new winning cycle with him.

Carlos Sainz and Ferrari have a two-season agreement. For the second time a team offers the Spaniard a medium-term deal, as it already happened at McLaren.

The Scuderia carefully considered what tools it needed to build the next winning cycle and its conclusion was the exit of Sebastian Vettel and the entry of Carlos. In the process, to be on the safe side, they listened to each of the Spanish team radio communications. The Spanish’s feedback impressed them so much that they decided to sign him.

Now they will have their youngest line-up since the 1968 Spanish Grand Prix, with a 23-year-old Jacky Ickx and a 24-year-old Chris Amon. Mattia Binotto agrees that this is a bet but is confident in his decision.

The Ferrari boss defends that with Carlos, as with Charles Leclerc, they sought to build a new long-term cycle, so he anticipates that, despite the two-year duration of Carlos’ contract, they expect him to renew and stay with them beyond 2022.

“I repeat that he is a very young driver. We have the youngest line-up since 1968. Normally we make a choice like this not only for two years, it is because we try to create solid foundations for the future and looking at the long term as well, so we hope that Carlos renews and will be with us in the coming years” – Mattia Binotto said in a statement to the GP Fans web portal.

The Ferrari boss is confident that he has the ideal line-up to build a good future, starting with the podiums he hopes to achieve this year if the Maranello team will be able to give Carlos and Charles a more competitive car. It must be remembered that the Monegasque is the driver on the grid with a longest contract, after in 2019 he signed a new deal with Ferrari that is available until 2024.
