Scuderia Ferrari is ready to challenge Red Bull on the new Miami circuit, a city track that alternates very fast sections, such as the two-kilometer straight, to slow corners, which will not make it easy for teams to find the right compromise regarding the setup for the 2022 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.
The Scuderia, having to compensate for a top speed gap to Max Verstappen’s RB18, will bring a series of useful updates to counter the pace of Adrian Newey’s car which at Imola showed an indisputable step forward in terms of development and race pace.
On the F1-75 we will see the announced rear wing with a medium-low downforce configuration, while in free practice Ferrari will test the floor that Carlos Sainz had used last Wednesday during the Pirelli testing session which took place in Imola after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Motorsport Italy’s Davide Cavazza had photographed the red car with the “skate” that appeared under the floor near the first of the two openings on the side part, focusing on a concept that was developed by Red Bull already in Australia and which should be useful to limit the porpoising phenomenon, since it is not a “miniskirt” otherwise prohibited by the regulation for the 2022 Formula 1 season.
According to the news coming from Maranello, Charles Leclerc will switch to engine 2, after his teammate Carlos Sainz was forced to use the second power unit already from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Imola circuit as a precautionary measure, due to a small issue identified by the Ferrari technicians, who decided that engine 1 should now be used only in the free practice sessions.
The decision to replace the 066/7 power unit does not derive from problems or fears of reliability, given that Ferrari has overcome with repeated long runs on the test bench any issues related to how much the power unit can be used to push the 6-cylinder turbo with more thrust mappings.

The achievement of certain duration targets also lead to the introduction of a change in the hybrid system: the new MGU-K should make its debut in Miami, while the ECU and battery will certainly arrive before the homologation limit set by the FIA for the month of September.
Scuderia Ferrari, therefore, comes to Miami with the intention of responding to Red Bull on the track already in Florida, while also waiting for the most important package of updates that will arrive in Barcelona, which the Racing Department is confident can win the “battle of the developments with Red Bull, a decisive factor in the fight for the 2022 Formula 1 world titles.
