Charles Leclerc plans to apply years of experience as he targets a 2026 F1 title with Ferrari
Charles Leclerc has made it clear that the 2026 Formula 1 season represents a crucial opportunity in his career, with the Ferrari driver determined to use the accumulation of small but important lessons learned over time to finally mount a genuine championship challenge.
As the Monegasque prepares to enter his eighth season with Scuderia Ferrari, Charles Leclerc is no longer approaching each campaign with a long list of fundamental areas to improve. Instead, his focus has shifted toward refining the smallest details, an evolution he sees as natural after more than 170 Grand Prix starts in Formula 1.
During his tenure at Maranello, Charles Leclerc has collected eight Grand Prix victories and established himself as one of the most naturally gifted drivers of his generation. However, despite his speed and consistency, Ferrari has yet to provide him with a car capable of sustaining a full-season fight for the World Championship. His strongest campaign remains 2022, when he finished runner-up but ultimately fell short of the title.
Reflecting on his development, the Monegasque driver explained that the learning curve in Formula 1 changes significantly as experience grows. In his early years, the weaknesses were more obvious and easier to address, particularly in areas such as race management and tyre preservation. Over time, as those shortcomings were resolved, progress became less about major steps and more about marginal gains.
According to Charles Leclerc, the modern Formula 1 driver must constantly fine-tune performance rather than overhaul driving style. With the basics now firmly in place, improvement comes from mastering details such as adapting to evolving race scenarios, extracting performance in changing conditions, and maximising every lap across a long season.
Ferrari is hoping that the introduction of the 2026 technical regulations will finally reset the competitive order and allow the team to end a championship drought that has stretched back to 2008. Internally, the Scuderia views the regulation change as a pivotal moment, not only for the car project but also for the future of its driver line-up, which includes Lewis Hamilton alongside Charles Leclerc.
As Ferrari builds toward the new era, Charles Leclerc has committed to applying everything he has learned throughout his career. Rather than pointing to a single defining lesson from recent seasons, he believes success will come from retaining and refining numerous small insights gathered year after year.
This mindset, shaped by experience and reinforced by seasons spent fighting at the front and coping with setbacks, is what Charles Leclerc hopes will give him the edge in 2026. With Lewis Hamilton also arriving at Ferrari with vast knowledge and championship pedigree, the team’s expectations are high, and the pressure to deliver is greater than ever.
For Charles Leclerc, the objective is clear: combine maturity, technical understanding and consistency to finally convert talent into a sustained title challenge. Whether Ferrari can provide the tools required remains to be seen, but the Monegasque is convinced that his preparation, built on years of incremental improvement, leaves him ready for the moment.
