There is nothing better than returning to the wheel of a Formula 1 car to erase the disappointment of retiring in the Monaco GP even before the start. Charles Leclerc returned into the cockpit of the Ferrari “mule car” this morning to resume development of Pirelli 2022 rain tires at the Paul Ricard circuit.
The Monegasque started testing the intermediates in the morning, despite the fact that in Castellet the weather was sunny with 17 degrees of ambient temperature and 23 degrees at asphalt level. The transalpine circuit, in fact, is the only one together with that of Fiorano, which has an automatic irrigation system thanks to which it is possible to maintain a constant water level.
In the afternoon Charles will test the full wets, before giving way to Carlos Sainz who will continue his work tomorrow in the same way. We recall that Ferrari agreed to take the place in this testing session which was initially scheduled for Mercedes, but the Brackley team gave up the test stating the need not to exceed the Budget cap with personnel expenses that were not foreseen.
The Maranello team has gladly accepted the invitation from the Italian manufacturer: the two drivers will be able to verify the development work carried out by Pirelli on the new wet tyres since Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz had already took part in another similar test in Jerez during the the winter.
