The bitterness of Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc after the Singapore Grand Prix is palpable, and the Italian side’s World Championship dreams seem increasingly distant. After the race, the Monegasque driver took the opportunity to clarify Maranello’s position in the Constructors’ battle with six races remaining in the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Currently, Ferrari is a full 75 points behind McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship, although they are only 34 points behind Red Bull. Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, sits third, 86 points behind Max Verstappen and 34 points behind Lando Norris, the recent winner of the Singapore GP.
Certainly, the gap isn’t insurmountable, but Charles Leclerc is clear about Ferrari’s hopes. “There are still six races left, but we are really far from being in the fight in both championships,” admitted the Monegasque in an interview F1 TV.
“Of course, we will continue to work hard as we have done so far. Both McLaren and Red Bull are still very strong, and it’s unlikely they will lose points in the upcoming races. This doesn’t mean we won’t try to push to the maximum, but I see it as really difficult,” continued Ferrari’s number 16 driver.
However, he pointed out that Singapore showed a decent performance. “Certainly, the problem here was during qualifying. The mistake there didn’t allow me to start further up the grid, and so the race was compromised. But the main mistake was there. We will continue to fight and see what comes of it,” Charles Leclerc concluded at the end of the Marina Bay race.
Scuderia Ferrari has six races left to try and compete with Red Bull and catch up to McLaren. Now, with almost a month’s break, there will be time to work and attempt to participate in the final rush in the best way possible. Even though, yes, it will be tough.
