Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto spoke about the Maranello team’s driver line-up chosen for the 2021 Formula 1 season. The Italian manager wanted to underline some aspects of Charles’ growth and then spoke of the choice of Carlos Sainz, a driver deemed “complete”, who in Ferrari’s ideas should not be regarded in the role of second driver.
Mattia Binotto is certain that Charles Leclerc is “studying” to become a true leader, and that he has grown as a driver but above all as a person:
“Charles has grown a lot this year, regardless of the difficulties he has improved in race management, in tire management, but he has also grown overall as a person, as a leader, in the way he expresses himself to the press, he worked to improve the issues, looking for to lay the correct foundations for the next seasons, always trying to be positive also in internal and external communication. I am convinced that he has everything to do well in the coming seasons. This year was important for him.” – the Ferrari boss explained.
Mattia Binotto also reiterated his satisfaction for having brought a solid driver like Carlos Sainz to Maranello, with words of sincere appreciation for the Spaniard:
“I am very happy with the choice of Carlos, with his arrival: when we chose him we thought about his ability to take the car to the finish line and to be very solid, always managing to improve his position compared to qualifying, important elements in the Constructors’ championship perspective”. – Mattia Binotto’s reasoning – “This year I saw him grow a lot in qualifying, he’s faster, a complete driver, fast in practice and consistent in the race. I expect him to be a difficult opponent for Charles, they will be free to fight, there is no hierarchy: there is no number 1 and number 2, the important thing is that at the beginning of the season they can both express their best abilities.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto concluded.
