Scuderia Ferrari have officially announced an unexpected change regarding their plan to test at the Fiorano circuit, as the Maranello team wait for the governing body the FIA tu provide further detals regarding the new regulations for testing sessions.
The Italian side had confirmed yesterday that would be using its 2021 Formula 1 car to take part in a four-day testing session this week, which should be allowed according to the new rules, but would be in breach of the old testing regulations, that state cars cannot be used from the previous year’s championship.
Ferrari is waiting for clarity from the FIA and in the meantime Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz and test driver Robert Shwartzman will use the SF71H from the 2018 championship.

It had been previously announced that an agreement in principle was reached to give teaam the possibility to use the 2021 cars for testing sessions, bit without the new Pirrelli tyres, taking into consideration the major regulation changes coming into play this year.
Yet for the moment the new rules ave not been formally approved or passed. The matter is due to go before the F1 Commission in February and the World Motor Sport Council thereafter.
A statement released by Ferrari on Tuesday afternoon confirmed: “This morning, the test programme which Scuderia Ferrari was due to carry out, starting today at the Fiorano track, has been changed. While awaiting an update from the FIA as to how rules relating to ‘Test Previous Cars’, which establish the criteria for which cars can be used in this type of test, are being applied for 2022, the decision has been taken to use a 2018 SF71H car. Further details on the test programme will follow later.” – Ferrari explained.
