Ahead of the 2022 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, which took place last weekend at the Miami International Autodrome, Scuderia Ferrari had already collected 124 points in the constructors’ standings, which is more than double compared to last year after four rounds, when the Italian side only had 60. This figure could have been even more impressive considering the fact that Carlos Sainz was not able to finish the last two races before the Miami race, in Australia and at the Imola circuit and Charles Leclerc lost a few points in the final part of the Emilia Romagna GP.
The stats would be enough to describe the super job done in Maranello ahead of the 2022 F1 season, but it would be an understatement. Ferrari is enjoying the fruits of a long term process, which started in the very difficult 2020 championship and continued last year, a season of transition. With the F1-75, Ferrari has improved every aspect, from the engine to the chassis and has given unconditional confidence to two very strong drivers (also with a contract extension for Carlos Sainz, as both Carlos and Charles are certain to stay with the Italian side at least until the end of the 2024 season) down to those smallest details, such as the pit stops, which however can decide the races, as demonstrated also at Imola. Regardless of the results and errors made in Imola, Ferrari is back and is finally competitive again. And its Chief Executive Officer, Benedetto Vigna, does not hide his satisfaction for the start of 2022:
“What excites me the most is to see the Formula 1 team return to the top, thanks to our talented drivers and the F1-75, which has proven to be reliable and up to the challenge. This is the great joy for me and for the whole team” – Benedetto Vigna said in a meeting with financial analysts.
“In GT races we are consolidating last year’s great performance with several victories already obtained. It is important to underline that the motorsport season has just begun, and we will continue to fight race after race with ambition and humility. Attention to detail and learning will be the key to how the season unfolds. We are also on track for our return to the FIA WEC top class from 2023, which will have its highlight in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race in which many great chapters of our automotive history have been written. It is a competition that represents another opportunity for us to fight at the highest level by pushing the boundaries of technology on the track and then transferring it to the next generation of Ferrari road cars.” – Ferrari Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna concluded.
