Two victories in the first three races of the 2022 Formula One championship, then unfortunately just two more in the remaining 17 events. This simple numerical figure clearly shows what Ferrari’s 2022 Formula 1 season was like.
The Maranello team made an amazing start, confirming the positive impressions from the pre-season testing sessions, which after the Australian Grand Prix created the illusion that the Italian side could in fact challenge Red Bull Racing for both world titles, drivers and constructors, which have been missing in Maranello for more than three decades.
But then, as the session progressed, between wrong strategies, lack of reliability and development of the car not up to par with rivals, the balance of power on the track was completely overturned: the Red Bull, which was behind in terms of race pace after the first GPs, became clearly faster than the F1-75, while the Maranello team lost several opportunities in the first part of the championship due to questionable tyre strategies and a series of technical failures.
So while Max Verstappen and the Milton Keynes team have set record after record, for the millions of Ferrari fans around there wasn’t anything else to do but lick their wounds and hope for the best in 2023. Mattia Binotto, Ferrari team principal, has often reiterated that the goal of the Italian team this year was to return to compete at the top and not necessarily to win the World Championship. Today, however, on the sidelines of a conference call held to illustrate Ferrari’s financial results during the last quarter, Benedetto Vigna (chief executive officer of Ferrari), also talked about issues related to motorsport. On the one hand, the Ferrari CEO expressed his satisfaction for the development of the Hypercar project, but on the other hand admitted to being disappointed for the situation linked to Formula 1.

“Despite the fact that we have returned to being competitive and fighting for wins, we cannot be satisfied with the results obtained. We will focus on the last two races and prepare in the best way for 2023” – Benedetto Vigna said. A comment that will certainly receive the support of many Ferrari fans, disappointed by how the championship is ending, with the car from Maranello which in the last race in Mexico was clearly beaten not only by Red Bull but also by a charging Mercedes, that is now just 40 points behind Scuderia Ferrari in the fight for second place in the constructors’ championship.
