In the post-Spanish Grand Prix interview with Italian TV broadcaster Sky Sport F1, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur spoke about the Maranello team’s poor performance at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and the upgrades introduced by Ferrari on the SF-23 for this weekend. Here are his words:
Fred Vasseur’s statements after the Spanish Grand Prix
The Ferrari team principal stated: “The main problem we had is probably in line with the past races, but the potential of the car is there. In qualifying, we have a decent pace, not compared to Max Verstappen, but at least compared to the rest of the group, and we were able to bring Carlos Sainz to the front row, which shows that the potential is there. However, we struggle to maintain consistency during the race with different tire compounds, both with Charles Leclerc from one stint to another. The first stint on the Hard tires was very difficult, while the second was quite different. The time difference between Charles Leclerc’s various race phases was about one or two tenths, while with Carlos Sainz in the second part, we lost fifteen seconds.” – the French manager pointed out.
The Ferrari team principal then added: “In the last stint, we did a good job for both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. The positive side is that the potential is there and sooner or later we will be able to unleash it and I think we will do a better job.” – he continued.

Regarding the updates introduced, Fred Vasseur explained: “From the perspective of the performance updates, we have made progress, and the most important thing is to separate what went well from what went wrong. In terms of the car’s potential, we have taken a step forward, and we have also managed to outline a path for the upcoming races. However, we had the same problem we encountered in Miami, where we suffered from one stint to another.” – the Ferrari boss concluded after the Spanish Grand Prix.
