The relationship between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz was fundamental for the Maranello team during the last two Formula 1 World Championships.
Last season, the collaboration between the two allowed Ferrari to fight for the title at least in the first part of the campaign, ending 2022 with a second place in the constructors and a P2 in the Drivers’ World Championship for the Monegasque.
Frédérick Vasseur is not worried about friction. Friends, rivals and teammates, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have repeatedly shown that they know how to work together.
During the interview with Roberto Chinchero for Motorsport, Fres Vasseur not only clarified his goals for Ferrari in 2023, but also spoke of the relationship between Charles and Carlos, clarifying that at the moment he does not intend to impose hierarchies between drivers.
Fred Vasseur, first impressions of Charles and Carlos
The reason seems to be found in the positive impression that the new Ferrari TP had upon meeting the Monegasque and the Spanish: “I was very positively surprised by the relationship between the two guys,” the French manager told Chinchero.

“I had dinner with them separately, then all together, and we got to spend a lot of time together over the last few weeks.”
Very positive opinions on both drivers, whom Vasseur has now found more mature: “I must say that compared to the Carlos I remembered, I found a more mature person, and the same goes for Charles after these years spent in Ferrari.” – he added.
To not cast any doubt on his intentions, the French TP stated that “the collaboration between them is even much stronger than it appears from the outside”.
The comments therefore reinforce Fred Vasseur’s intention to aim for the Constructors’ World Championship and bring back a title for the Maranello team which has been missing since 2008.
