The presentation of the Ferrari SF-23 car has, as always, generated a lot of emotions for the faithful Tifosi, who went in large numbers to be near the Fiorano circuit from the early hours of the morning to be able to watch the first laps of the new single-seater. An event which, at the same time, was particularly special also and above all for Frédéric Vasseur, in his first year as team principal of the Italian side, after replacing Mattia Binotto at the top of the Racing Division.
Interviewed by Sky Sport 24 shortly after the first laps completed by Charles Leclerc, the Frenchman commented not only on the general goal for the upcoming Formula 1 season, but also expressed all his emotions on the occasion of his first event as a Ferrari team principal:
“It’s a great feeling” – the French manager confirmed – “It was a wonderful event for so many fans. We could feel all the passion, which is important to start the season. Our aim today was not to test the car from a technical point of view, but it was an important day to feel the emotions of the fans. Let’s say it was like being in a small Monza. The fans have been here since 5am, and the passion and expectations are huge. We feel the pressure, but we have to live it in a positive way. The results of the first race can give a lot of optimism, and we will have to keep the same approach for the following GPs too, keeping the same motivations” – the ex-Alfa Romeo boss pointed out.
On the occasion of his first major Ferrari event, Frederic Vasseur also addressed other interesting topics, not only on the feeling of great energy and collective motivation that reigns in Maranello, but also on the need to tackle the work scheduled in Bahrain with calm and tranquillity, the same approach that the Italian side will also have to maintain for the rest of the 2023 Formula One season if it wants to achieve the desired results: “I’ve been here for four weeks, and the spirit among the drivers is positive – he added – as are all the motivations you feel before leaving for Sakhir. I was calm and relaxed this morning, and I think the team did a fantastic job on this presentation. It’s a new era for me now, with a new project and a new car, and now we’ll see what happens. In any case, the most important aspect remains the mentality; we come from a second place, and our goal is not to finish third. Each of us must do our job at our best, without focusing on what the others are doing. We try to keep calm and experience the season step by step. It’s still too early to add comments on my new role, I know there are decisions that shouldn’t be made in a hurry, but this is not the time to discuss them.” – Frederic Vasseur explained.
