Frédéric Vasseur encouraged by Ferrari pace despite third-row result in Montreal Sprint Qualifying
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur remains optimistic after Sprint Qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, insisting the Scuderia was highly competitive despite both cars ending up on the third row of the grid.
Ferrari narrowly miss out in tight Montreal Sprint Qualifying
Lewis Hamilton emerged as one of the standout performers during Sprint Qualifying at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, showing strong pace throughout the session. However, in SQ3, the familiar pattern returned, with the Mercedes-powered rivals finding extra performance at the decisive moment and pushing the Ferrari drivers further down the order.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion looked capable of securing a second-row start, and perhaps even challenging Andrea Kimi Antonelli for an even stronger position. However, a mistake in the final sector of his lap, as highlighted by telemetry analysis, ultimately cost him valuable time.
Despite that missed opportunity, Frédéric Vasseur was satisfied with Ferrari’s overall performance on Friday in Montreal.
Frédéric Vasseur sees opportunity in Sprint race
“Our two drivers were quite competitive in Sprint Qualifying,” Frédéric Vasseur said. “The gaps between the teams are extremely small here, and today just a few thousandths made the difference of a couple of positions.
“In the Sprint race, we will try to score some points while also making the most of the 23 laps to learn even more and use that information in the best possible way for Sunday’s Grand Prix.” – the French manager concluded.
Navigating these razor-thin margins highlights the immense technical challenge teams face when optimizing their packages for the unique characteristics of the Montreal circuit. As the competitive action intensifies over the remainder of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, execution during the short race and processing the gathered data will be crucial for the Scuderia to maximize its points haul on Saturday and Sunday.
